It depends on your target species. For bass and inshore saltwater, 20 to 30 lb test covers most situations. For catfish, tarpon, and other heavyweights, 50 to 80 lb test gives you the strength to land the fight. Atko Leviathan braid is available from 6 lb to 200 lb test so you can match your line to exactly what you are chasing.
4 strand braid (like Atko Leviathan) is more abrasion resistant and works great around rocks, structure, and heavy cover. 8 strand braid (like Atko Leviathan X8) is smoother, casts farther, and has less line noise. Choose 4 strand for toughness and 8 strand for distance and sensitivity.
For most spinning reels, 150 to 200 yards is plenty. For conventional reels targeting bigger fish offshore, 300 yards or more gives you enough capacity for long runs. Atko Leviathan braid comes in 150, 300, 500, and 1500 yard spools so you can fill any reel.
